Activity 10.3

DISTRIBUTION OF BIOMASS POWER STATIONS

Aim:

When you have completed this activity you will have discussed arguments for and against using biomass for energy production.

You will need:

  • Map of Queensland

Procedure:

  • Form into small groups to discuss this question. Later, share your arguments with the class.
  • Some people say that biomass energy is not good for the environment because wood, bagasse and methane burn to form carbon dioxide, which is a greenhouse gas. They also say we should not use animal manure or sewage to make biogas because these materials are smelly and carry disease. What do you think? Should Australia produce more energy from biomass?
