Activity 8.4

ARGUMENTS FOR AND AGAINST WIND POWER

Aim:

When you have completed this activity you will have researched and discussed the advantages and disadvantages of wind power.

Procedure:

  • Read the information in the Fact Sheet. You may like to do further research of your own.
  • The people in a small town in a remote part of Australia use a diesel-powered generator to produce electric power for the town. The generator is getting old and needs replacing. The mayor holds a public meeting to decide what to do. At the meeting, some people suggest spending money on wind power. Other people speak against wind power. What arguments for and against do you think they might use?
  • Role-play the town meeting.
